Summary |
61 pages covering the history of the Hodgkins and Hayter families in the Delta County area, including short genealogies of these families at the beginning. Following are reminiscences of Edward and Louise Hodgkins, Elsie Nelson (a friend and neighbor), Marian Peterson, and the author, Jean Brayak. There is a wealth of information about what it was like to be a young person on a farm in Pine Ridge, about farming life, about rural one-room schools, and much more. The family originally settled in Marquette and later at a farm in Deer Lake, where the family patriarch, Joshua Hodgkins, was also superintendent of the Deer Lake Difision of the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. The farm at Pine Ridge was begun by his sons Harvey and Will. |
