Photo of the first Hansen & Jensen gasoline truck. On back of photo: "about 1914. Driver is Roland Lausen." Gasoline truck is parked at the H & J station on 3rd Street and Ludington, next to the Ludington Hotel, part of which can be seen in the background, along with two streetcars. Note on back of another copy: "First gas truck in Escanaba -- circa 1920. Hansen and Jensen got in the gas business as a result of the fishing fleet getting the first gas boat. In 1912 people were getting cars, but there was no gas station in town. THey found they were filling the gas tanks of cars belonging to the doctor and other professionals who had cars on the weekend. The man in the picture is Art Lausen." |
